From Queer Channel Media:
This Saturday, July 12 at noon, gay activists in San Francisco will “celebrate independence” from the Human Rights Campaign by giving out rainbow flag stickers in front of the HRC store in the Castro as a “symbol of LGBT liberation.” They encourage former HRC members to cover up their bumper stickers with the rainbows.
The event is in response to HRC’s position of not opposing the gay-only version of ENDA passed by the House last year. It has not yet been introduced in the Senate.
“By contrast, sometime during the early 1990s, HRC introduced its own,
purely-domestic, impostor flag, two gold bars — symbolizing wealth? We’re not sure. In any event, that unhistoric and unremarkable flag has fallen into disrepute, coming to represent homosexuals living in the middle of the country — rather than the actual full diversity of our beautiful, global LGBT community,” the press release from And Castro for All said.
No - that’s the good (and valid) part.
Up screen protectors! Get ready to laugh - and probably spew (or perhaps hurl.)
Brad Luna, communications director for HRC, said that the basis for the protest is faulty.
“We have been and continue to be one of the lead organizations supporting an inclusive bill,” he said. “We are doing more work to educate the public and members of Congress on the need for an inclusive bill than any organization out there.”
Luna said that HRC officials just returned from San Francisco Pride, where he said the organization experienced an outpouring of support from the community.
I demand to see Brad Luna’s dictionary - specifically, its definition of “the community.”

It was such at outpouring of support at SF Pride that HRC withdrew from the parade! Not from embarrassment over what people might say to them, but for fear that the warm glow emmanating from the communities embrace might cause sun poisoning to those in the parade who only wore SPF15.
Strange though. The reason for the protest is faulty. If only HRC had some sort of department where someone like … maybe …could direct their communications efforts & focus on presenting their messages.

Yes, I can see how we would have misunderstood HRC’s intention to support inclusive legislation when Joe Solmonese said they would not only support ONLY legislation that is inclusive but would in fact oppose
legislation that was not and they have TAKEN THAT MESSAGE LOUD AND CLEAR TO THE HILL. (I think Barney was absent that day).
In the end, HRC DID NOT support the inclusive legislation and has in FACT lobbied for the sexual orientation ONLY, version of ENDA.
Kathy, you cracked me up!! Good one Kath….the warm glow! haha
