Shit Bil Browning Says…And Doesn’t Say…And Apparently Will Never Say

We all remember this, right?

Yes we all do.

Really, we all do.

But some of us are apparently either trying to forget it or desperately hoping that everyone else will forget it.

So…for fuck’s sake, lets deal with some FACTS!

  • According to a Jan. 23, 2012 post in the website of Canada’s Xtra, Dan Savage made an appearance in Vancouver, British Columbia on Jan. 21.
  • According to the aforementioned Jan. 23, 2012 post in the website of Canada’s Xtra, Dan Savage was glitterbombed before that event.
  • According to the aforementioned Jan. 23, 2012 post in the website of Canada’s Xtra, a “group of six activists, who named themselves The Homomilitia for the event, said they confronted Savage as he entered the theatre through a back-alley entrance.”
  • The apparent pre-Savage-event ‘press release’ from The Homomilitia, dated Jan. 21, does not indicate who all, if anyone, with The Homomilitia is trans-anything or anything-anything.
  • That apparent ‘press release’ was not on a website identifiable as Homomilitia-specific.
  • The contact website listed on the apparent ‘press release’ is anti-Dan Savage but is not trans-specific and contains no posts for the eleven days prior to Savage’s Vancouver event.
  • According to the aforementioned Jan. 23, 2012 post in the website of Canada’s Xtra, those involved with the action against Savage in Vancouver listed six problems that they have with Savage, only one of which is trans-specific.
  • According to the aforementioned Jan. 23, 2012 post in the website of Canada’s Xtra, those involved with the action against Savage in Vancouver were “building on the work of trans activists and friends of trans people” invovled with previous actions against Savage.
  • The aforementioned Jan. 23, 2012 post in the website of Canada’s Xtra does not state that anyone involved with the action against Savage in Vancouver is trans-anything or anything-anything.
  • The aforementioned Jan. 23, 2012 post in the website of Canada’s Xtra contains one photo related to the event in Vancouver.
  • The aforementioned photo is not of anyone glitterbombing anyone but, rather, of a well-dressed, smiling woman handing out pamphlets.
  • The aforementioned Jan. 23, 2012 post in the website of Canada’s Xtra is one of only a handful of (perhaps as few as two) first-hand reports about the anti-Savage aspect of the event in Vancouver.
  • The only other first-hand report I have run across is from the Vancouver Media Co-Op and is dated Jan. 21.
  • The aforementioned Vancouver Media Co-Op piece dated Jan. 21 does not give the name of the group involved in the event in Vancouver, and only refers to them as “queer activists.”
  • The aforementioned Vancouver Media Co-Op piece dated Jan. 21 contains three photos: (1) “Dan Savage Glitterbombed”, which is a primarily a close-up image what one might presume to be a copy of the flyer handed out at the event, though also visible is part of might be a clothed leg; (2) “Dan Savage shortly after being glitter-bombed”, which is a man walking across an alley wherein the man’s face is totally obscured by the flash; (3) also entitled “Dan Savage Glitterbombed”, which is of a person – presumably other than the man who had been walking across the alley – standing outside what appears to be a partially-open door.
  • None of the aforementioned photos depict the act of glitterbombing.
  • Other than the image of Dan Savage reproduced on the flyer in the first photo, none of the aforementioned photos is an obvious image of Dan Savage.
  • On Jan. 23, 2012, Joe Jervis posted the following at Joe.My.God.: “Transgender Activists Glitter-bomb Dan Savage Again.”
  • Jervis’s only source underlying the events in Vancouver was the aforementioned Jan. 23, 2012 post in the website of Canada’s Xtra.
  • On Jan. 23, 2012, The John posted the following at AmericaBlog: “Trans activists glitterbomb Dan Savage again, this time because he supports marriage equality.”
  • The John’s only source underlying the events in Vancouver was the aforementioned Jan. 23, 2012 post in the website of Canada’s Xtra.
  • On Jan. 23, 2012, Bil Browning posted the following at Bilerico: “Trans Mafia: Savage Glitterbombed Again.”

  • Dolan’s only source underlying the events in Vancouver was the aforementioned Jan. 23, 2012 post in the website of Canada’s Xtra.
  • On Jan. 24, 2012, Andy Towle posted the following at Towleroad: “Trans Activists Glitterbomb Dan Savage for, Among Other Things, Support of Marriage Equality.”
  • Towle’s only source underlying the events in Vancouver was the aforementioned Jan. 23, 2012 post in the website of Canada’s Xtra.
  • On Jan. 24, John Becker posted the following at Bilerico, accompanied by a reproduction of the famous photo of a French Nazi collaborator being executed by firing squad during World War II: “Dan Savage & the Circular Firing Squad
  • Becker’s only sources underlying the events in Vancouver was the aforementioned Jan. 23, 2012 post in the website of Canada’s Xtra, and the aforementioned item by Browning, whose only sources underlying the events in Vancouver was the aforementioned Jan. 23, 2012 post in the website of Canada’s Xtra and the aforementioned blog post by Joe Jervis, whose only source underlying the events in Vancouver was the aforementioned Jan. 23, 2012 post in the website of Canada’s Xtra.
  • On Jan. 25, 2012, The John posted the following at AmericaBlog: “How the gays defined ‘Santorum.’
  • In the aforementioned Jan. 25, post, The John again reiterates the alleged Vancouver-centric facts underlying his Jan. 23 post.
  • In the comments section of the aforementioned Jan. 25, post, The John is called out on the lack of substantiation for the allegation that trans people were involved in the Vancouver event and responds by saying that that simply doesn’t matter: “Every attack until now has been done by trans people, and the attacks are happening because the trans community decided to demonize Dan and make him public enemy number one.  So, yes, if you are responsible for motivating the people who attacked him, and they’re doing it in your name, and the previous attacks were done by you, then yes you are responsible for putting a stop to it”
  • On Jan. 27, Dan Avery posted the following at Queerty: “Stop Glitter-Bombing Dan Savage. He’s Not the Enemy.”
  • Avery’s only sources underlying the events in Vancouver were the aforementioned Jan. 23, 2012 post in the website of Canada’s Xtra and the aforementioned Raw Story item, whose only source underlying the events in Vancouver were the aforementioned Jan. 23, 2012 post in the website of Canada’s Xtra.
  • On Jan. 27, at 6:38 PM, Natasha Barsotti posts the following at Canada’s Xtra: “Queerty to defence of glitter-bombed Savage
  • Barsotti’s item repeated the claim that trans people were involved with the Vancouver events.
  • Barsotti’s only sources were the previous Xtra item and the aforementioned Queerty piece.
  • At 8:09 PM a comment is posted to Barsotti’s story pointing out the lack of substantiation for the claim that trans people were involved with the Vancouver events.
  • At 10:40 PM, Barsotti acknowledged the problematic nature of the claims that trans people were involved with the Vancouver events: “Thank you for pointing out my error. I double checked with the original reporter on the story and the activists were apparently queer, not specifically trans, though they highlighted Savage’s alleged transphobia among their concerns.”
  • On Jan. 29, 2012, Adam Polaski posted the following at Bilerico: “Comment of the Week: A Call for Civility
  • Polaski’s only source underlying the events in Vancouver was the aforementioned item by Browning, whose only sources underlying the events in Vancouver was the aforementioned Jan. 23, 2012 post in the website of Canada’s Xtra and the aforementioned blog post by Joe Jervis, whose only source underlying the events in Vancouver was the aforementioned Jan. 23, 2012 post in the website of Canada’s Xtra.
  • Polaski subsequently updated his post to reflect the dubious nature of the allegations of trans involvement in the events in Vancouver.
  • On Jan. 30, Joe Jervis, via Twitter, defended his Jan. 23 piece by asserting: “They are self-described ‘trans-activists’ which is exactly how I labeled them.”
  • On Jan. 31, Jervis demanded accountability from Chelsea Sayre, who in posting about the aforementioned tweet characterized Jervis as having taken to Twitter to argue against her own prior debunking of the Transcouver meme: “I did NOT ‘take to Twitter’ to debunk your fucking post, which I had not read. YOU tweeted ME out of the blue. Stop your fucking lying, you fucking liar.”

If you think that Bil Browning – or any of those whipping up anti-trans animosity, which oozes from the comments to the aforementioned gay blog posts, within the gay masses (I’m singling Bil out because he was alleged to have said, via a personal communication, that he was going to addreess this matter but that he just had too much on his plate; The John has long since proved that he simply doesn’t care about the difference between facts and his rabid desire to ensure that nothing gets in the way of what he wants, which is gay marriage) – has any inclination whatsoever to address the fact that we now know (which is aside from the question of whether Browning knew or cared on January 23) that the Xtra article at the far end of the link underlying the words “Dan Savage was glitterbombed again” in that Shillerico piece says nothing whatsoever about Dan Savage being glitterbombed in Vancouver by “trans activists” but instead says:

then perhaps you’ll be amused about what Bil Browning has had to say since Jan. 23 instead of addressing with the same ferocious, transphobia-seeding fabulosity that he played the “trans mafia” card on Jan. 23 the fact that we now know that the Xtra article at the far end of the link underlying the words “Dan Savage was glitterbombed again” in that Shillerico piece says nothing whatsoever about Dan Savage being glitterbombed in Vancouver by “trans activists.”

Yes, perhaps you’ll be amused…

But, if that’s all you are, then that means you haven’t been paying attention.

In a post about the incident today, Joe Jervis points his readers to an older Bilerico post by Austen Crowder called, “The ‘Trans Mafia’ Stifles Allies.” I sent him an email to thank him for it.

And you might mistake “dumbassery” for accuracy, or…

…or the enabling of trans-exterminationism for being an ally.

It all depends on what the meaning of “dumbassery” is, eh?

Or, perhaps a better question is: What Would The John Do?

Ohh…

Never mind.

[T]he trans community created the environment in which the attacks on Dan have happened….

He’s already done it….

which means I think that, from this moment forward, every gay man and lesbian shall be deemed to be responsible for every anti-same-sex marriage constitutional amendment pushed through from 2004 onward – as well as a federal constitutional ban on same-sex marriage, should one ever come into force.

Ken Mehlman scoreboard.

Or would you prefer that of Dean Corll?

    Meanwhile, in Baltimore:

“Opponents of a proposal to protect transgender people from discrimination in Baltimore County urged the County Council on Monday to defeat the measure, saying they fear the bill could have unintended consequences.

At a council meeting, about 15 people spoke against the legislation, which would ban discrimination based on sexual orientation and gender identity in housing, the workplace and public places. The meeting was the second one in a month that drew a crowd interested in the issue.
    [...]
A number of the legislation’s supporters testified at a council meeting last month, when Catonsville Democrat Tom Quirk introduced the bill. But on Monday, only one person spoke in favor of the measure, Mark Patro of the group Parents, Families and Friends of Lesbians and Gays.”

PFLAG. One person from PFLAG showed up. Maybe the other allies had too much on their plates?
