When PHB becomes part of FDL, in addition to officially-condoned sockpuppetry this is the sort of highbrow, progressive analysis that FDL will be getting:
As a reminder, here’s Autumn trying to walk the post back – with the deftness of a Republican politico who has run afoul of the Tea Party and who is vainly attempting media CYA:
I didn’t have evil intent here, and I wasn’t aiming to mock anyone in the video by posting the video.
And frankly, I loved viewing the People of Walmart video because I love seeing the diversity of the people in the video. It never dawned on me that people would find what I saw as a wonderful, eclectic bunch of diverse people in an attack on these folk.
To that, I relay one of the final comments to the posting:
People of Wal-Mart is a site that has been called out for classism and plenty of other reasons since its inception, and in September of 2009, the media/bloggers were very vocal in criticism. And now, nearly 2 years later, someone posts it here and claims they had no idea it would be received poorly? Unbelievable.
Autumn thinks laughing at poor, poorly-dressed, outcast, trans, and mentally ill people is fun for the weekend. She now wants to cover her butt by saying she paid so little attention to highly-publicized cultural issues that she had no idea PoW was problematic. She thought it was a celebration all along, you see. She very slyly states that it was the commenters who saw bigotry, not her pure mind, oh no. Pam won’t remove it because she’s taking the high ground, morally pointing out that there is bigotry in the world. Hey, thanks Pam! We didn’t know that until Autumn posted this video! So nice of you!
Absolute crap. Autumn and Pam, you should be ashamed of yourselves
For some reason, I’m reminded of one of the few Weekend Update lines from Noam MacDonald that was actually funny. Upon learning that Kenny G was putting out an Xmas album, his response was: “Happy birthday, Jesus! Hope you like crap!”
Perhaps FDL should opt for the Kenny G Xmas album while it still has time. At least there’s no chance it will get even crappier.
