Joe Fudgepacker, Israel Luna, Capricorn and Dreger

[UPDATED TITLE.  Why? Well, apparently Joe Fudgepacker’s paper has decided that Bailey-defendin’ con artist Alice Dreger is an acceptable voice to speak for trans youth.]

From the NY Times:

I mentioned [Dan] Savage to a psychotherapist who works with children. He said that the It Gets Better project had saved the lives of several of his patients. “They tell me they might have killed themselves if it weren’t for Dan Savage,” my friend said, as tears filled his eyes.

Hearing such reactions, and having been personally subjected by Savage to his earnest, ardent effusions about his wonderful husband and awesome son, it is tough to credit anyone who thinks Savage is a subversive figure. When I think of Savage, I think of his response to the mother whose ex-husband, her son’s father, was undergoing a sex change. Her son was angry, and she wondered what she should say to him. Savage said the boy was entitled to his feelings. “Children have a right to some stability and constancy from the adults in their lives,” Savage wrote. “Perhaps I’m a transphobic bigot,” but asking a father to wait “a measly 36 months” before having his penis chopped off “is a sacrifice any father should be willing to make for his 15-year-old son. Call me old-fashioned.”

Oh…I’m sure that he just says things like that to get hits on his website to rake in advertising bucks, which makes it all okay, right?

If an HRC shill such as May-gun Stay-bluh thinks trans-baiting is an acceptable (or at least one worthy of invoking her considerable skill at being an apologist for Gay, Inc.) money-making m.o. for Bil Browning – which is who Mz. Stay-bluh was referring to here – why wouldn’t she and all of the other people who know what’s best for trans people because they have enough money not to have to worry about the effects of gay-orchestrated anti-trans policies and philosophies have on real people who can’t afford to live the HRC Board lifestyle give a pass to certain other gay men who profess to be allies? Sure, we see this:

And that’s nice – but will commerce ultimately outweigh class?

As it always does in Corporatist Gay Land?

After all…

I’m guessing if Joe Fudgepacker is, like, a “musical faggot” kind of transphobe, he’s positively wet at the thought of now getting to see Nobel Gay Culture Laureate Israel Luna’s magnum transphopus without even having to put on his pants.

  1. ValerieKeefe says:

Trykey me is sort of uncomfortable with the language… more or less all of it… aren’t we supposed to be better than that? It’s the same reason I was pissed off at my po-mo roomie, the one who said I couldn’t be into the Indigo Girls because I wasn’t a lesbian, for calling Margaret Thatcher’s handbag an artificial c**t. I understand that you and I find these people to be odious, hypocritical, and reveling in a level of hedonism that they’ll have to invent a golden robot for in the 31st century, but surely we can call them over-fed K Street and Bay Street piggies feasting at the trough of the social repression they pretend to dislike, mouthing words of support and sucking dollars out of well-meaning trans ally wallets, instead of, well… less class-aware things.

Sometimes warfare must be asymmetrical to be effective.

  2. […] The problem with this isn’t the bare sentiment embodied by the words.  Rather, its the messenger: May-gun Stay-bluh, a walking synonym for “giving cover to the transphobic cabal that is Gay, Inc.” […]
