Remind Me Again: Why Aren’t the Koch Brothers in Prison?

Oh that’s right…

Law is for rich white people to enforce, not obey.

The unholy alliance between the Koch Brothers, the Tea Party and conservative “personalities” is funded in part by the shady secret sales of petrochemical equipment to Iran. These are the same Right wing personalities who make a lot of money selling “small government”, hatred of Muslims, a disturbingly devoid of patriotism version of nationalism, and unfettered markets.

And the Kancerous Koch Kabal?

If you’ve ever been enraged by the hypocrisy of the never-ending drum beat for “small government” by the Sarah Palin/ Glenn Beck type Tea Partiers, buckle your seat belt.

The much-awaited Bloomberg article hit the net last night and blew the lid off of the carefully guarded and barely recovering Koch Brothers’ reputations with revelations of Koch’s secret sales to Iran. This morning, the financial ties between Koch Brother Axis of Evil money and conservative spokespeople like Sarah Palin and Glenn Beck were further exposed.

Bloomberg revealed the deaths, bribes, felony charges, envelopes stuffed with cash, criminal violations, deliberate poisoning of the air with cancerous smoke, and hundreds of millions of fines behind the Koch Brothers. They revealed that employees are taught to cheat and steal under “The Koch Method.” Oh, and the Kochs sold millions of dollars in petrochemical equipment to Iran, a country recognized for sponsoring terrorism but also one of three countries in the George W Bush identified “Axis of Evil.”

It’s ironic that Sarah Palin, whom the Koch brothers money paid to speak on behalf of the “Tea Party,” has accused President Obama of “palling around with terrorists.” See, the money from those petrochemical sales funded Americans for Prosperity which funds the Tea Party which pays people like Sarah Palin and Glenn Beck to speak. David Koch is in fact the founder of Americans for Prosperity. This money trail is no longer murky.

From that Bloomberg piece:

In May 2008, a unit of Koch Industries Inc., one of the world’s largest privately held companies, sent Ludmila Egorova-Farines, its newly hired compliance officer and ethics manager, to investigate the management of a subsidiary in Arles in southern France. In less than a week, she discovered that the company had paid bribes to win contracts.

“I uncovered the practices within a few days,” Egorova- Farines says. “They were not hidden at all.”

“Those activities constitute violations of criminal law,” Koch Industries wrote in a Dec. 8, 2008, letter giving details of its findings. The letter was made public in a civil court ruling in France in September 2010; the document has never before been reported by the media.

Egorova-Farines wasn’t rewarded for bringing the illicit payments to the company’s attention. Her superiors removed her from the inquiry in August 2008 and fired her in June 2009, calling her incompetent, even after Koch’s investigators substantiated her findings. She sued Koch-Glitsch in France for wrongful termination.

Uh oh…

A peon standing up to the elite.   I bet Chuckie and Dave are ready to release the hounds!

Koch-Glitsch is part of a global empire run by billionaire brothers Charles and David Koch, who have taken a small oil company they inherited from their father, Fred, after his death in 1967, and built it into a chemical, textile, trading and refining conglomerate spanning more than 50 countries.

The most visible part of Koch Industries is its consumer brands, including Lycra fiber and Stainmaster carpet. Georgia- Pacific LLC, which Koch owns, makes Dixie cups, Brawny paper towels and Quilted Northern bath tissue.

Sounds like boycott time to me.

I’ve been a Quilted Northern person for years, but Quilted Northern = Georgia Pacific = Koch Industries.

Yes, there’s a sort of poetic justice in using a Koch product to wipe one’s a** — but doing so simply feeds more dollars to the Koch brothers, which they’ll use to continue their vile war against democracy.

So I’m in the market for a new brand; I think my local (non-chain) supermarket has a recycled option.

Anyone want to join me?

Yup – I think I’m with ‘Mary in Chicago’ on this one.

But what about the Konniving Kriminal Kochs?

Sally Barnes-Soliz, who’s now an investigator for the State Department of Labor and Industries in Washington, says that when she worked for Koch, her bosses and a company lawyer at the Koch refinery in Corpus Christi, Texas, asked her to falsify data for a report to the state on uncontrolled emissions of benzene, a known cause of cancer. Barnes-Soliz, who testified to a federal grand jury, says she refused to alter the numbers.

“They didn’t know what to do with me,” she says. “They were really kind of baffled that I had ethics.”

Koch’s refinery unit pleaded guilty in 2001 to a federal felony charge of lying to regulators and paid $20 million in fines and penalties.

I know what happens to humans who get convicted of felonies – all the ass rape that money can’t buy your way out of – but corporations?

“We are proud to be a major American employer and manufacturing company with about 50,000 U.S. employees,” she wrote. “Given the regulatory complexity of our business, we will, like any business, have issues that arise. When we fall short of our goals, we take steps to correct and address the issues in order to ensure compliance.”

When humans commit felonies, steps are taken for them – such as being sent to prison to be “correct[ed]” and taught to thereafter be in “compliance” with law.

and don’t forget the sexual torture.

Shouldn’t one of the top priorities of America’s justice system be to ensure that the septuagenerian Koch brothers learn first-hand how humans pay for their crimes before they escape to holes in the ground, leaving their criminal empire to their young Kriminal Koch Klones?

  1. Amen, Katrina.

I forget who it was who said, if you’re going to commit crimes, do so on a scale so vast and sweeping that they are just too big for others to grasp?

    Actually… no, I haven’t… “Google serves” .-)

Treason doth never prosper: what’s the reason?
    – Why, if it prosper, none dare call it treason. †

And truly, does anything prosper like a modern corporation, with its miraculous undead legal status as a “person”, serving as a front for psychopathic exploitation of others? I think not.

Thanks for your postings, Katrina; may your sense of outrage be ever productive…

PS: The problem with State power is… there’s always someone wanting to use it. (And in a modern civilization, they’re invariably extremely narcissistic, and if we’re really really lucky, they are not uncaring psychopaths.)
