Jeremiah Wright (D) = Bob Jones (R)? Only the Corporatist Media Knows for Sure (Because it Gets to Decide for Itself and Make Up a Fake Narrative to Keep Straight White People Scared)

From the LGBT alumni of – snigger – BJU:

Presidential candidate Mitt Romney enthusiastically accepted the endorsement of Dr. Bob Jones III, Chancellor of Bob Jones University, during the last election.

“We’re proud to have Dr. Jones’ support and look forward to working with him to  communicate Governor Romney’s message of conservative change to voters,” Romney  spokesman William Holley said in a statement in October 2007.

The endorsement of Bob Jones was once a much-sought-after prize in South Carolina’s early primary. In 2000, George W. Bush’s speech before the BJU crowd brought controversy to his campaign because of the university’s rule forbidding interracial marriage and dating. One month later, BJU reversed its long-standing policy on CNN’s Larry King Show.  All serious Republican candidates, including Ronald Reagan in 1980 and George H.W. Bush made the pilgrimage to America’s “Fortress of Faith” in the upstate town of Greenville.

Back in those days, the following statement by Dr. Bob Jones III, then president and now-chancellor of BJU, barely raised an eyebrow:

I’m sure this will be greatly misquoted but it would not be a bad idea to bring the swift justice today that was brought in Israel’s day against murder and rape and homosexuality. I guarantee it would solve the problem post-haste if homosexuals were stoned, if murderers were immediately killed as the Bible commands.

Go to any bar in the Dupont Circle area and you’re liable to find a few stoned gays (trans folks too probably.)

But I digress….

If the corporatist media did its job the way that it tried to do a job on candidate Barack Obama in 2008, then – forget the North Carolina nutjob – the entirety of the Mormon religion would be Multiple Choice Mitt’s “Jeremiah Wright problem.”

Our questions for Governor Romney are:

(1) Were you aware in 2008 that Dr. Jones and BJU had advocated the stoning to death of homosexuals?

(2) If yes, why did you accept his endorsement? If you weren’t aware, why not?

(3) This time, will you accept his endorsement? Or will you join our petition drive calling on Dr. Jones to apologize for his rampant, blatant homophobic statements?

Will the corporatist media even go for the low-hanging fruit of Bob Jones?

I’m not holding my breath.

This is simply a stupid comparison. In Romney’s case, he is being endorsed by someone. Having someone say they like you is not the same as saying you like them.

In Obama’s case, he ENDORSED Wright – by attending his church for 20 years, by basing one of his books on Wright’s words, by praising him.

Find a similar relationship between Romney and Bob Jones and you may have a comparison. Without it, you are just showing your idiocy and bias.

I love the smell of a one-percenter snit in the afternoon.

      • Concerned Anonymous says:

It is usually not the one-percenters that are smelling 🙂

I only wish I was anywhere close to being in the top one per cent of earners. Instead I work two jobs and my wife works as well to provide for our family.

Notice you did not actually address the issue – just made stupid and false accusations – typical liberal.

Ha ha, working people smell because their work gets all over them plus they even perspire. Whereas 1%ers smell like expensive cologne. Is that the “joke,” Concerned Anonymous?

OH NO! Kat didn’t address THE ISSUE(r)! Maybe because she’s not your trained dancing monkey, and you don’t get to frame the issues around here. And you don’t have to be a 1%er yourself to throw a 1%er snit, because as someone who supports a rich man’s spoiled brat for President (Mitten Romney), you are one of the 1%ers’ army of self-defeating sycophants. You carry water for the 1%ers in the vain hope that they’ll let some trickle down onto you.

        Actually, I’m a dancing kat 🙂

Jeremiah Wright was the victim of a right-wing media lynching. He never actually did anything wrong. They took a snippet of an evangelical Christian preacher’s sermons out of context, by the same method ANY evangelical Christian preacher can be found to have said something offensive, if you refuse to listen to the surrounding contextual framework he was using in the sermon.

    • Concerned Anonymous says:

Jeremiah Wright was not the victims of anything close to a right-wing media lynching. He was the beneficiary of liberals covering for their own. If any white preacher that was a supporter of a Republican candidate had anywhere close to the type of things on his church’s website that used to be on Wright’s website, THEN you would have really seen a media lynching – and not just of the preacher, but also the candidate.

Instead, you have attacks made about Romney (and he is not my first choice, either, fwiw) just because of an endorsement from someone whose words and statements pale in comparison to the racist and anti-American statements of Wright.

(If you really think that Wright got harsher treatment than deserved, you may need to take a trip to the wayback machine and see the type of things he actually said and the things espoused by his church.)

Nice racism there. I generally stop reading that kind of crap after I see the phrase “If any white [fill in the blank] then…”

      • Megan says:

All I’m hearing from you is “WAAAH! Reverse racism! White people have it so tough because they weren’t able to trash Wright and Obama in the media! WAAAAH!”

Shall I get out the tiny violin for you?

  3. Isn’t it an interesting coincidence that these conservafools never sign their name to their loud and wrong BS commentary?

I am not stupid enough to leave my name at a site like this. The blog owner may be thoughtful and honest, but I have learned from experience that the kind of liberals that typically frequent these sights have no understanding of ethics and will try to do what they can to make a person’s life miserable just because he dared to counter their drivel with facts.

BTW, I noticed you did not actually try to answer my comments – only made a snide comment. Typical.
