More Dog Whistles From the Maryland Gay Oppressor Class Who Didn’t Think We Were Equal to Them in 2001 and Who Still Doesn’t Now

Seen recently on Facebook (even though it apparently was posted on Friday):

Now – I’m not slamming drag queens or transvestites or crossdressers or any non-transsexuals, but I am questioning why an organization that claims to be interested in securing equality for trans people in Maryland and which must be presumed to know the degree to which all people who will be (2/3) covered by HB 235 are presumed by the actual (read: non-Cathy Brennan-defined) enemies of trans equality to be men in dresses would, in the run-up to (allegedly) trying to get the entire Maryland House to pass even the transphobic current version of HB 235, wave this in front of Peter Sprigg and his Prim Pricks.

And now the punchline.

On that Facebook thread – which has apparently fallen victim to yet more of ‘Equality’ Maryland’s patented censorship – ‘Equality’ Maryland is attempting to play historian:

Wow…

I think I need to plug in the text of that.

People in the community do not all agree that drag is any way hurtful to the cause.

No, but most people with any political sense understand that waving drag queens under the noses of legislators and easily-excitable scared citizens who either don’t know or who are being goaded by christianists into not caring that not all trans people are drag queens might not be a good idea – depending, of course, on what the actual goals actually are.

Gender performance has a long history in our community. Let’s not forget that in addition to gay, lesbian, bisexual and trangender people that the birth of …the modern equality movement at Stonewall included several drag queens.

Funny – but when trans people mention that in response to being left completely out of civil rights proposals we’re told….

well, you can find John Aravosis’s website and check its 2007 archives for yourself to find out what we’re told.

We should not allow the rhetoric of our opposition to tear us apart.

Then quit supplying new rhetoric for them by legitimizing their current rhetoric by buying into the ‘penis panic’ via supporting Barney-rific bills like HB 235.

A man or woman who performs drag but does not identify as transgender can also be discriminated against or harassed for not neatly fitting into gender roles.

Funny – but when trans people mention that in response to being left completely out of civil rights proposals we’re told….

well, you can find John Aravosis’s website and check its 2007 archives for yourself to find out what we’re told.

The idea that we all have to be cisgender and straight and fit into a gender binary is what hurts us all. We should be united to overcome these assumptions and the discrimination that results from them.

Then get yourselves cured of your Marriage Derangement Syndrome, admit your crimes of 2001 and tell the Legislature to pass a legitimate trans rights bill or pass nothing at all.
